Screen Printing Supplies – Everything You Need, Stage by Stage

This category brings together the consumables and accessories you need to run a screen printing setup properly — from coating and exposing your screens to printing, cleaning and reclaiming. Whether you're setting up your first workspace or restocking a production studio, you'll find the right tools here without having to search across multiple suppliers.

Every product in this section has been selected based on real use in screen printing production. Nothing generic, nothing unnecessary.

Screen preparation supplies

Before you print a single line, your screen needs to be properly prepared. That means degreasing the mesh, applying emulsion evenly, and exposing your artwork accurately. The supplies in this section cover all three stages:

  • Scoop coaters — aluminium coating channels for applying emulsion in a single, even pass. Available in different widths to match your frame size.
  • Photosensitive emulsions — including our Plus 7000 emulsion with Diazo sensitiser, designed for clean stencil edges and good exposure latitude.
  • Transparency films — for printing your artwork positives. Standard A4 inkjet-compatible sheets that give sufficient opacity for sharp exposure.
  • Exposure lamps — UV lamps for exposing coated screens at home or in a small studio, without the cost of a dedicated exposure unit.
  • Active degreaser — removes grease, dust and residue from mesh before coating, ensuring the emulsion bonds properly to the fabric.

Printing accessories

During printing, the quality of your accessories has a direct impact on ink deposit, edge sharpness and repeatability. The essentials:

  • Pallet adhesive spray — holds garments flat on the printing board during the squeegee stroke without leaving residue on the fabric. Essential for repeat runs.
  • Screen tape — 50mm adhesive tape for blocking the edges of frames and preventing ink from bleeding under the mesh.
  • Plastic spatulas — for moving and recovering ink from the screen before and after printing.
  • Yellow safelight bulbs — for working in a darkroom environment without prematurely exposing coated screens.

Screen cleaning and reclaiming supplies

Proper cleaning after each job extends the life of your screens and keeps print quality consistent. Our reclaiming range includes:

  • Emulsion remover (Autostrip) — breaks down hardened emulsion quickly so the mesh can be recoated with a new design.
  • Active degreaser — used after stripping to remove any remaining ink or chemical residue before the next coating cycle.
  • Kiwo Pregan 235s spray — professional-grade solvent for stubborn ghost images and ink stains that resist standard strippers.
  • Cleaning sponges and scrubbing pads — for working reclaiming chemicals into the mesh without damaging the fibres.

Which supplies do you actually need?

If you're starting from scratch, the minimum setup you need to coat, expose and print is: scoop coater + emulsion + transparency film + UV lamp + squeegee + pallet spray. Everything else improves consistency and makes cleanup faster.

If you're already printing and looking to reduce waste or improve quality, the two areas that make the biggest difference are degreasing before coating (most beginners skip this) and using proper pallet adhesive spray instead of improvised solutions.

FAQ – Screen Printing Supplies

What supplies do I need to coat and expose a screen at home?

The minimum you need is: a scoop coater sized to your frame, a photosensitive emulsion with Diazo sensitiser, a UV light source (lamp or direct sunlight), and transparency film for your artwork. Degrease the mesh first, coat both sides evenly, let it dry in darkness, then expose with your film positive in place. The Plus 7000 emulsion in our range includes Diazo and is well suited for home use.

What is pallet adhesive spray and do I really need it?

Pallet adhesive spray is a repositionable adhesive applied to the printing board (pallet) to hold garments flat during printing. Without it, T-shirts shift during the squeegee stroke and prints come out misaligned. It's one of those supplies that looks optional but makes an immediate difference to print quality. It doesn't leave residue on the fabric and the board can be restocked between runs.

How do I remove emulsion from a screen after printing?

Apply emulsion remover (such as Autostrip) to both sides of the wet screen, leave it for 1–2 minutes, then scrub with a pad and rinse with water under pressure. For stubborn ghost images left after reclaiming, use a specialist stain remover such as Kiwo Pregan 235s spray. After rinsing, degrease the mesh before recoating.

What mesh count should I use for T-shirt printing?

For standard T-shirt printing with water-based or plastisol inks, a 43T or 55T mesh works well for bold designs and solid fills. For fine details, halftones or text, move up to 77T or 90T. Higher mesh counts allow less ink through, which suits detailed work but requires inks with lower viscosity. Our mesh guide in the screen printing mesh category explains the full range.

Can I use a regular light bulb to expose screens?

No — standard incandescent or LED bulbs don't emit enough UV to expose photosensitive emulsion reliably. You need a UV source: either direct sunlight (weather-dependent and hard to control), a UV lamp specifically designed for screen exposure, or a dedicated exposure unit. The exposure lamps in our supplies category are sized for home and small studio use and work with the emulsions we stock.
